What’s Your Point of View?

  • Objective - the story is told only through action and dialogue. The reader doesn’t get any insight into the characters’ thoughts or feelings.
  • First Person - the story is written from one character’s point of view using ‘I’, ‘me, ‘my’; I did this, I said that.
  • Second Person - the story is written as if from the reader’s point of view; you did this, you said that.
  • Third Person - the narrator is outside of the characters; he did this, she said this; but also has insight into their heads.
  • Omniscient - the narrator is all seeing and all knowing. They can be anywhere, any time, and in the head of any character.
  • Limited Omniscient - the narrator’s knowledge is limited to one character. They can see, hear, feel, and experience all that the character does.
